As you will be aware, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in Ireland is in the process of implementing EU 2019/6 and 2019/4 Veterinary Medicinal Products and Medicated Feed regulations. These regulations currently only apply in the Republic for food producing animals and horses.
We have integrated Teleos with the NVPS system, but you will need to be on then latest program build. If you are unsure then please contact the Teleos support team. Re: National Veterinary Prescription System (NVPS) commences 4th December 2023
Dear Sir/Madam
This note is to advise you that the Minister will shortly be introducing a Statutory Instrument under the Act which will require the mandatory use of the NVPS for all prescribing and dispensing of Prescription Only (POM) veterinary medicinal products for food producing animals and all horses from 4th December 2023.
What does this mean for me?
This means that from 4th December 2023, it will be mandatory to use the NVPS for all prescribing and dispensing of veterinary medicinal products for food producing animals and all horses. You will not be able to issue paper prescriptions from this date.
What about antiparasitics?
The requirement for a veterinary prescription for the dispensing of antiparasitics will be provided for at a later date. However, once the requirement for a veterinary prescription for the dispensing of these products is introduced, the prescribing and dispensing of these products must be done on the NVPS. The industry will be advised with notice of the introduction of this requirement.
What do I need to do next?
If you have 3rd Party software for veterinary prescribing or dispensing the NVPS is providing full integration software known as Application Programming Interface (API) to allow seamless transfer of data between your existing system and the NVPS. You should ensure your software system is fully integrated with the NVPS before 4th December.
If you do not have a software system, or your software system has not been integrated by your supplier, you will need to use the NVPS directly. You need to register to use the system. If you have already registered, we will send out your log in details 4 weeks before the system goes live. If you do not have software and have not already registered to use the NVPS system directly, or you have any other queries please contact us on NVPS@agriculture.gov.ie
Will I be provided with training on the NVPS?
Training webinars will take place in November and users guides for the system will be available to all vet practices. Further information on training dates will be available soon.
